Heathrow Airport (LHR) is London and Europe's
largest airport with 5 terminals, it the world's busiest
airport in terms of international passenger movement, with
services available from most major airports world-wide.
Airport Facilities
Money and
communications:There are ATMs and bureaux de
change facilities throughout the airport. There
are post offices in Terminals 2 and 4. Public
telephones can be found in the main areas of each
terminal, as well as wall-mounted pay fax machines.
Wireless Internet access is available in the Departures
lounges of all the terminals.
Eating and
drinking: There are a wide variety
of restaurants, bars, pubs, sandwich bars, fast-food
outlets and coffee shops, throughout the
airport.
Shopping:
There are a wide variety of shops
in each terminal including bookshops, newsagents,
clothing accessories shops, music shops, electrical
goods shops, pharmacies, sunglasses shops, shoe shops,
and perfumeries. Chemists can be found in all
the terminals; the Terminal 1 chemist dispenses
prescriptions.
Luggage:
Left-luggage offices can be found
in each terminal. Lost property however can be
reclaimed from the Airport Lost Property Office
.
Other
facilities:They include a chapel,
showers, visitor centre and a health
centre.
Information and Help
Desks:
Information desks are available in
each terminal. Information desks, for bus, coach and rail
options, are located in Terminals 1 and 3, and outside
Terminal 4. The Hotel and Traveller Centre, in
Terminal 3, provides visitor information, hotel
accomodation and London Underground tickets
. Help desks are also located
throughout the airport, where passengers can seek
assistance by using a courtesy telephone and can also
look at terminal maps.
Car
Hire:
There are a large number of car rental
companies which are all represented at each
terminal.
Transfer Between
Terminals:
Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are within
walking distance of each other, via underground
walkways. Transfer between Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and
Terminals 4 (journey time - 8 minutes) and 5 (journey
time - 12 minutes), which are located on the
south and west sides of the airport respectively, is
free on the Heathrow Express
train.
Car
Parking:
There are various car
parking options are available. Each terminal has its
own short-stay parking, there are
also long stay car parks available
too. A free shuttle service
travelling between the terminals
and the long-term and business car parks is
provided.
Valet parking is available at
all five terminals; Chauffeured parking is also available.
Disabled drivers can request assistance from customer
service staff at the car
parks.
Motorbikes can park free of charge at
designated areas at each
terminal.
Driving Directions
Terminals 1, 2 and 3 can be reached
via the following motorways: M4 Junction 4, M25
Junction 15, A4 (local road). Terminal 4 is reached
via the following motorways: M4 Junction 3, M25
Junction 14, A30 (local
road).
Public Transport
Rail: The frequent Heathrow
Express non-stop train service to London
Paddington Station takes approx 15-20 minutes (tel:
0845 600 1515; www.heathrowexpress.com). Paddington is served by
mainline national rail routes to the west and south west
of England, and is on the London Underground network. A o
ne way ticket per person is £16.50, return trip £32 (+ £3
surcharge if bought onboard).
The Heathrow Express operates from terminals one, two, three and
five with trains running every 15 minutes. Passengers
from terminal four need to take the free transfer
service to Heathrow Central and change. You can
buy tickets from the Heathrow Express
desks or self-service ticket kiosks located at the
station; tickets are also available for purchase on the
train, for a premium, or online, with a 10% discount. A
cheaper, but longer option is to take the Heathrow
Connect rail service (tel: 0845 678 6975; website:
www.heathrowconnect.com) to
Paddington.
Underground: The
airport is on the London Underground’s Piccadilly Line, which
can take passengers into central London (journey
time approx 50 minutes). For more information, call the

Bus: Numerous local
buses stop at the central bus station and Terminals 4 and 5.
Bus services include National
Express which depart from all five
terminals to London Victoria coach station. At night, the
N9 bus service travels to central London. For more

Coach: Coaches connect
the airport to more than 500 destinations throughout the
UK. National
Expressis the major service
provider.
Taxi: London's
licensed black cabs serve London Heathrow Airport and are
available outside all the terminals.
They cost from around £40-70 for a
journey to the city centre (depending on traffic conditions
and time of day).
